The Wake Forest Reservoir Trail: Hike
June 27 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pmFree
The Naturalist walk will begin at the gravel parking lot at the dam, located off Traditions Grande Boulevard near Wait Avenue. Although the trail is used frequently by hikers and mountain bikers, small wildflower habitats can still be found adjacent to the trail. We hope to see some of the four species of native orchids that are found in these locations. Along the edge of the lake, flowering shrubs and vines, and small populations of wetland wildflowers are present. Waterfowl and herons are often seen in the inlets and along the shore. The dam itself also supports a small colony of nesting cliff swallows, which are easy to observe at close range.
