Beavers: Love Them or Hate Them

January 13 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Love them or hate them, beavers were one of our first land managers and still play an integral part in shaping landscapes. This month our speaker is Denise Altherr who will join us in-person (and online) for an exploration of the secret lives of beavers from where we started to their near extinction, and the positive effect they can have on ecosystems today. Denise is a US Fish & Wildlife Service employee stationed at Pee Dee NWR in Wadesboro, NC. As a new career decision in 2010, Denise earned an Associates of Science/Forestry Degree from Montgomery Community College in Troy, NC. She has spent the last 10 years working for the National Park Service holding positions in Visitor Services at Yellowstone NP, Crater Lake NP, Yosemite NP, Shenandoah NP and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Denise said “having the opportunity to work in such amazingly beautiful places has been one of the greatest blessings of my life that gave me an even stronger appreciation for our natural environment.”
