Bladen Lakes Isolated Wetlands Restoration Workshop: Part Two (Field Tour)

September 22, 2022

Isolated wetlands are critically important to conserving ecosystem biodiversity in the Southeast. They provide many ecosystem services, to include improving water quality. They are a vital natural resource, important in maintaining biodiversity and essential for wetland-dependent wildlife. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission, NC Forest Service, NC State Extension Forestry and The Nature Conservancy are partnering on a two-part workshop on restoration of these wetlands.

Field tour participants will see natural and man-made wetlands in a variety of habitat conditions during a visit to Suggs Mill Pond Gamelands and Bladen Lakes State Forest and another property.  Tour participants will explore restoration successes and lessons learned and look at examples of controlled burning in and around Carolina bays and pocosin vegetation. Transportation will be provided from Jones Lake State Park and participants will bring their own brown bag lunch in the field.
