Creating a Backyard Habitat with Native Plants

March 10 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Resindot sunflower, Helianthus resindosus,

Join NCWF’s Union County Wildlife Chapter in learning more about creating backyard habitats!

We will explore the benefits of planting native species, and discover how to best attract birds, butterflies, and other wildlife to your yard this year! Our guest speaker, Lisa Tompkins, is a North Carolina native who earned a BA in Psychology from UNC-Charlotte and an AAS in Horticulture Technology from Central Piedmont Community College. She began working as a landscape designer (at Elemental Landscape Design) in 2004 with an increasing emphasis on native plants and sustainable design. In addition to landscape design, Lisa currently operates a small native plants nursery, Carolina Heritage Nursery. She is an active member of the North Carolina Native Plant Society, and she has been certified in NC Residential Rain Gardening as a NC Plant Professional and also received her certificate in Native Plant Studies from UNCC Gardens. When not working, she tends her own gardens and scouts the woods and roadsides of the Carolina Piedmont in search of native plant discoveries.
