Durham County Plant Conservation Preserve Native Outplanting

November 30 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Swamp sunflower, Helianthus angustifolius

Join NCWF and the Plant Conservation program (PCP) for a native plant outplanting of 250 plants provided by the NC Botanical Garden! PCP has been working for several years on restoring a small section of the Hebron Road Prairie Remnant Plant Conservation Preserve in Durham. Earlier this year, several imperiled species were planted as part of a nearby rescue project. The next phase is to outplant some less rare species that will help more quickly restore the biodiversity of this natural community. These plants will promote greater pollinator visitation, other wildlife resources, and additional fine fuel for prescribed burns. Through a generous grant from Burt’s Bees Foundation, the NC Botanical Garden has grown a series of local ecotypes of prairie-affiliated plant species to share with conservation partners. Come help us get the plants in the ground before it’s too cold!
