Ecological Forestry Webinar
October 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Ecological Forestry inherently recognizes the ecological, social, and economic values of our forests. It strives to maintain and enhance the fundamental capacity and integrity of the complex forest ecosystem. Ecological Forestry is implemented based on four principles: mimic natural processes; increase structural complexity; improve biological diversity; and retain some large high-quality trees. We’ll also explore how to steward forests for all their natural benefits: water quality, soil conservation, wildlife habitat, carbon sequestration, recreation, aesthetics, biodiversity, and timber production.
Speaker/Moderator Bio(s): Andy Tait has been the Forestry Director since EcoForester’s inception in 2015 and oversees all forestry work from forest stewardship plans to timber sales. Putting to use the best science on southern Appalachian forest stewardship – which he was part of at the US Forest Service’s Southern Research Station in Asheville for 6 years – is his passion. Andy works to advance the practice of forestry from his experience with cutting edge upland hardwood silviculture (how to grow trees, oaks in particular), and integrated forest health management to conserve, restore, and enhance our forests. Andy has also worked on numerous natural resource conservation projects in the region since 2005.
