Juneteenth Hike at Eno River State Park
June 19 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Join the Bull City Trailblazers for an educational 2.85 mile hike, over easy terrain in the Eno River State Park on Juneteenth to learn about Fannie Breeze, a midwife and enslaved African American woman who lived and worked in the Eno River Valley. She was an important person in the community whose expertise was enlisted by Black and White women alike. Fannie attended the births of many children whose families still live in the area today. Throughout the course of the hike, attendees will learn about Fannie, see the river ford that’s named in Fannie’s honor, and observe her homesite, and the foundation where her home once stood. Following the hike, Bull City Trailblazers will have a limited selection of native milkweed plants to give away to attendees and the general public.
