Talking Wildfires: The Science Behind Wildfires and Those Who Fight Them (Online)
June 13, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join the Lower Cape Fear Wildlife Chapter as they welcome Carrie McCullen for an online webinar. Carrie serves as the Forest Supervisor at Turnbull Creek Educational State Forest. This year, the N.C. Forest Service has responded to over 2,600 wildfires statewide to date. In this presentation we’ll explore the basics of what makes a wildfire, the most common causes of wildfires in North Carolina and how wildfires change in complexity due to their location and other factors. Participants will also learn about those that work to contain wildfires in N.C. and the equipment used to do so. The presentation will wrap up with some notes on where participants can go to learn more about wildfires and wildland firefighting in North Carolina.
