Bumble Bee Atlas Survey (Charlotte)

August 17, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join NCWF Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter, NCWF staff, and Central Carolinas Master Naturalist volunteers to participate in a Xerces Society Bumble Bee Atlas survey! The Atlas is a community science initiative aimed at gathering important data needed to track and conserve bumble bees!

Volunteers with and without experience are needed for this survey! Experienced volunteers who have participated in the Atlas before or received prior training are needed to catch bumble bees using aerial insect nets and get them safely into vials on ice. Volunteers without experience will help transfer bees into vials, take photos, carry equipment, record data, and learn how to participate in the survey.

Expect the initial collection of bees to take approximately one hour to complete. Taking photos and collecting data will take up the remainder of the time. Bumble bees you can expect to see during the survey are the common eastern bumble bee, the two-spotted bumble bee, the brown-belted bumble bee, and the American bumble bee.
