The Island Habitat Program (IHP), managed by the NCWF Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists (LNWC) chapter, enhances island habitats for wildlife on Lake Norman through volunteer efforts like native plantings and shoreline restoration, litter sweeps, and bird nest box installations.

Wildlife and lake enthusiasts interested in adopting an island are invited to join NCWF and LNWC for a kick-off event at the Charles Mack Conference Center in Mooresville. We will familiarize interested adopters with the IHP and seek individuals or groups of individuals to adopt islands and perform routine clean-ups and inspections, including habitat enhancement projects and wildlife monitoring. Access to a boat is required to participate in the IHP.

We will present an overview of the Island Habitat Program and have IHP County Coordinators present to sign up new adopters and answer questions for their respective counties (Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln, and Mecklenburg counties). We will hand out IHP t-shirts and litter sweep supplies (trash bags, gloves, and trash grabbers) to those who sign up to adopt an island (while supplies last).
