Pollinator Prowl (Matthews)
June 17, 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Join HAWK volunteers and NCWF staff as we search high and low for the pollinators that call our neighborhoods home! Pollinators play a critical role in our ecosystems, economies, and agriculture. Bees, moths, butterflies, and even flies are responsible for every third bite of food we take! Pollinators promote healthy soil and clean water by supporting native plant communities.
During this exciting pollinator prowl, participants will practice identifying native pollinators and discover which plants provide the pollen and nectar needed to support their populations. We will practice using a community science app called iNaturalist to record our observations. By recording your observations in iNaturalist, you are helping researchers better understand pollinator abundance and diversity.
Your observations during this program, and throughout Pollinator Week (June 17-23), will help scientists protect and conserve this incredibly valuable community of animals! We hope to see you there!
