Habitat Work Day (Waxhaw)

November 8, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Schweinitz’s sunflower (Helianthus schweinitzii) was federally listed as endangered in 1991 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Occurring only in the Piedmont of North and South Carolina, Schweintiz’s sunflower grows in open woodlands and prairie-like habitats. Populations occur in the western Piedmont, including Union County.

Join NCWF Union County Wildlife Chapter and Catawba Lands Conservancy to remove invasive species and improve habitat for the endangered Schweinitz’s sunflower at Cane Creek Park. Volunteers are needed to remove privet and several other invasive species that threaten the prairie habitat at the Park. This event is appropriate for big kids and adults only.
