Moth Night (Apex)

August 23, 2025 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Did you know that there are an estimated 160,000 species of moths worldwide — almost ten times as many as there are for butterflies? Most only come out at night, so you may not have seen them before. Well, here is your chance! Join NCWF South Wake Conservationists Chapter for their popular Moth Night at Crowder County Park in Apex. Led by local environmental educator, Bonnie Eamick, this is a family-friendly event for all ages.

We will set up a large sheet with a UV light to attract a variety of moths that will land on the sheet for everyone to observe and draw. We can then use the iNaturalist Seek app (Android or iOS) to identify some of them, and submit photos as citizen scientists. Come enjoy the amazing variety of moth shapes, sizes, and colors that we will see in just one evening!
