Bat Discovery Program (Swannanoa)
July 23, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Please join Swannanoa Valley WILD! for a special Bat Discovery Program at Warren Wilson College with Wildlife Biologist Scott Fletcher. Did you know North Carolina is home to at least 17 different species of bats? Often overlooked due to their nocturnal nature, these amazing ecosystem warriors will be out and about during the waxing moon. Come take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about your tiny neighbors, the only flying mammals on the planet!
Please feel free to bring folding chairs or a blanket to sit on, a head lamp or flashlight, bug spray, water and snacks. And as always, bring your curiosity! Scott will bring the latest in bat identification technology such as thermal cameras and bat acoustic monitors. The event is free and open to all, but registration is required.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in wildlife biology from the University of Maine and a Master’s degree in environmental management from Duke University. He is a Certified Wildlife Biologist and was a Professional Wetland Scientist. Scott has 41 years of experience in wildlife, endangered species, wetlands, habitat restoration, general environmental impact analyses and assessments, and federal, state, and local natural resource policy and permitting activities.
