The Birds of Mecklenburg County: Changing Status from 1944 to Present (Charlotte)
February 10, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join NCWF Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter, and naturalist Taylor Piephoff to explore the changing status of birds in Mecklenburg County. There have been tremendous changes to the Mecklenburg County avifauna over the last 80 years. During this presentation, selected species will be highlighted with reasons for the trends, both up and down. Spoiler: It’s not all bad news.
Taylor Piephoff has been birding Mecklenburg County and beyond for over fifty years. He recently achieved the milestone of seeing his 300th bird species in the county! He is a past chair and member of the NC Bird Records Committee, past member of the SC Bird Records Committee, past President of the Carolina Bird Club, and past contributor of the Piedmont Birding column to the Charlotte Observer from 2006-2019.
