Bridging the Gap: Discussion of Water Quality, Community Trust, and Volunteer Communication After Hurricane Helene (Online)

July 9, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

Effective disaster recovery requires both environmental interventions and resilient volunteer networks. This presentation explores the intersections of environmental health, disaster response, and community resilience following Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. Join NCWF High Country Wild to welcome Appalachian State Graduate student Eryn Stowe as she discusses her current research and past experiences studying Hurricane Helene. Drawing from her fieldwork as a Water Quality Specialist with Wine to Water’s Helene Recovery and Resilience Program, Eryn will share on-the-ground insights into water testing and community engagement. Furthermore, she will present findings from her NIH-funded mixed-methods research, highlighting the prevalence of community cohesion and reassurance in disaster response.
