Button Bush Planting (Troutman)
November 8, 2026 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join NCWF Lake Norman Wildlife Chapter and Island Adopters for a fun afternoon of buttonbush planting and nest box installation on Lake Norman! The islands of Lake Norman provide critical refuge for all kinds of wildlife including deer, fish, songbirds, raptors and pollinators. Native buttonbushes reduce erosion and stabilize island shorelines, while increasing habitat and forage for waterfowl, pollinators, and other wildlife.
Volunteers are needed to install brown-headed nuthatch nest boxes and plant the hundreds of buttonbushes across several islands. We will meet at Safe Harbor Skippers Landing where the islands are a short boat ride away. We will provide all boats and tools. Please bring water and gloves, and come dressed in layers. We strongly recommend knee-high waterproof boots or waders. Pizza and drinks will be provided to all volunteers at the end.
This important work directly supports the Island Habitat Program, a conservation initiative to enhance island habitats for wildlife by removing litter, installing nest boxes and native plants, and educating the public about wildlife habitat stewardship. Learn more about the Island Habitat Program.
