Fraser Fir Transplanting Workday (Burnsville)
June 2, 2026 @ 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
Join NCWF alongside the Spruce Fir Restoration Initiative partners to help transplant fraser fir trees at Mt Mitchell State Park. We’re relocating the trees to an area in the park that we’re aiming to reforest and restore to spruce-fir habitat. Spruce-fir habitat in North Carolina is a rare, ice-age relict ecosystem found exclusively on mountain peaks above 5,000 feet. Characterized by red spruce and Fraser fir trees, it mimics the Canadian boreal forest and supports specialized wildlife like the Carolina northern flying squirrel and spruce-fir moss spider.
We’re looking for a few additional volunteers to help with the project. If you’re interested, please email luke@ncwf.org and we’ll provide more details – parking, carpool, what to expect, etc.
