Frosted Elfin Survey (Gates)

April 17, 2026 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Join NCWF Wildlife Habitat Stewards of Northeastern NC Chapter as we conduct frosted elfin group surveys in Gates County! North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission biologists need your help to learn more about frosted elfin distribution across the state by reporting observations of these butterflies through an exciting community science opportunity.

Frosted elfin are considered a Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) as they are facing population declines across most of their range, making their monitoring all the more crucial. By taking the time to report frosted elfin sightings, we can help WRC biologists fill in population distribution gaps, locate potential new populations, and/or identify areas for targeted monitoring and strategic conservation efforts.

While we hope you can join us for a group survey, anyone in NC can conduct these surveys on their own time as well! Please use this online survey form to submit your frosted elfin sightings. Want to learn more about frosted elfins? You can watch this recorded webinar on our NCWF YouTube page.

Please note that our group surveys will be conducted along a remote roadside route with no public restrooms nearby.
