Hawkwatch on the Blue Ridge Parkway (Candler)

September 18, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join NCWF ReWild AVL for a morning of hawk watching with Mark Waligora, owner of Wild Birds Unlimited South Asheville, and Vicky Burke, Hawkwatch Coordinator. Hawk migration typically peaks in the Asheville area around September 19–25, and around 10:00 a.m. the mountain thermals begin to build, creating ideal conditions for migrating raptors to take flight.

Vicky will share her expertise about this important hawkwatch location and help us spot and identify migrating raptors. On a good morning, you may see up to 14 species of hawks and other raptors as they soar overhead!

We’ll meet at the Mills River Overlook – Mile Marker 404.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway approximately three miles before the Pisgah Inn when traveling from Asheville. Space is limited and registration is required, so be sure to reserve your spot!
