We invite you to join NCWF Habitat and Wildlife Keepers Chapter and Town of Matthews staff to remove harmful invasive plant species from Squirrel Lake Park. Non-native invasive plant species like Chinese Wisteria, English Ivy, and Japanese Honeysuckle outcompete native plants and greatly reduce biodiversity and habitat for native animals.
Volunteers will learn how to identify common invasive plants and get their hands on with removal. Removing invasive species is often the first step towards restoring quality wildlife habitat. We will have some tools on hand, but we encourage you to bring a pair of pruners, loppers, or a pruning saw. Long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toed shoes are highly recommended. Please bring water and your favorite pair of work gloves.
