Invasive Plant Training (Marshall)

October 28, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Carolina Mountain Club, North Carolina Wildlife Federation, and Appalachian Trail Conservancy for a non-native invasive plant training! We’ll kick things off at the Marshall Public Library with a program led by ATC’s NNIP specialist, Emily Powell. After lunch, we’ll head to the Appalachian Trail just outside of Hot Springs and apply our knowledge in the field. This is a great opportunity to learn about the different invasive plant species in Western North Carolina and effective strategies for removal. Post-training we will discuss opportunities to contribute to the invasive removal effort along the AT.

Invasive plant species form dense monocultures, crowding out native vegetation and reducing biodiversity. Invasive plant species removal is a critical step in promoting a well-rounded ecosystem. By taking action to control and eradicate invasive plant species, we can help protect native biodiversity, restore ecosystem and trail functionality, and ensure a healthier and more balanced natural world for both people and wildlife.
