Impacts of Pharmaceutical Pollution on Stream Microorganisms (Online)

May 7, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

What happens to over-the-counter drugs when they are washed down the drain? Join NCWF South Wake Conservationists Chapter for a presentation about how over-the-counter drugs impact the microorganism communities living in our stream beds. Using his research, speaker Kevin Doheny will examine the data collected from streams receiving wastewater along the French-German border, and display the relationship between the drugs we use everyday and their impacts on microorganism communities in our waterways. He will also cover the implications of this research in our own communities by talking about the impacts on the streams and rivers in southern Wake County caused by increasing urbanization and industrialization.
