Pollinator Garden Workday at Merchants Millpond State Park (Gatesville)

April 1, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join NCWF’s Wildlife Habitat Stewards of Northeastern NC Chapter at Merchants Millpond State Park on Wednesday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to noon as we get the pollinator garden ready for the season. Together we’ll tend the garden trimming shrubs, caring for the flowering perennials, and pulling invasive weeds. It’s a great chance to learn about the plants that support our pollinators while lending a hand.

Merchants Millpond State Park is built around a serene 760‑acre millpond that has been part of the landscape for nearly two centuries. Whether you wander the quiet trails or glide across the pond’s calm, shallow waters, it’s an inviting way to experience this rich wetland habitat. Towering old‑growth cypress trees draped in Spanish moss create an almost enchanted atmosphere, especially in Lassiter Swamp. Folks occasionally spot the American alligator here, living at the northern edge of its natural range.
