Retracing the Lewis and Clark Expedition (Holly Springs)
August 14, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Renowned National Geographic Explorer Dr. Roland Kays, in partnership with the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, led a team of biologists to re-survey wildlife along the same route Lewis and Clark pioneered 220 years ago. NCWF South Wake Conservationists Chapter is honored to host Dr. Kays for a first-hand account of this expedition, Return of the Wild, and a comparison with what Lewis and Clark recorded in their original journal in 1804-1806.
Together, we’ll learn about long-term changes in wildlife biodiversity and how the observations from this expedition can be used to inform wildlife conservation and management across the United States. We will also have the pleasure of enjoying some of the beautiful video footage obtained through camera traps and direct observation and hear first-hand stories and facts from this incredible adventure. This will be a sneak peek at some of the wonderful videography that will be included as part of a full documentary they are producing for national media outlets this summer. Join us for a very special presentation about North American wildlife with Dr. Roland Kays!
