Join NCWF, Mecklenburg Audubon Society, and NCWF Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter to meet the most spectacular aerial insectivores, Chimney swifts. These birds spend almost their entire lives flying, hunting insects, and even bathing on the wing. Having lost much of their habitat to development, chimney swifts now rely on brick mason chimneys for survival. As the sun goes down and the swifts make their way home for the night, chat with local conservationists about chimney swift biology, behavior, and conservation. Discover their miraculous fall migration and observe swifts up close using scopes and binoculars. The night will culminate with the spectacle that is many hundreds of swifts chattering while swirling into a vortex before dropping into the chimney. Help us count the birds and contribute to their conservation efforts.
