All ages are invited to join NCWF and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge as we search for spiders during the 2026 NC Spider Search! This community science project encourages participants of all ages to upload as many spider observations as they can to help scientists track spider populations around the state. We’ll search around the educational pollinator garden behind the refuge visitor center in Columbia while taking in all the magical sights and sounds of nocturnal life along the Scuppernong River. Participants that submit 7 photo observations of different spiders to iNaturalist will qualify to receive a badge from Science Across NC to celebrate your contributions to community science.

No fancy supplies are needed – just bring a flashlight, smartphone or camera, and your curiosity for the outdoors! Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
