Misssss-Snaken Identity with ecoEXPLORE (Columbia)

May 5, 2026 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Join Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and North Carolina Wildlife Federation for the kickoff to Herpetology Season as we complete an activity on the misssss-snaken identity of venomous vs non-venomous snake species! We’ll enjoy a walk along the Scuppernong River Interpretive Boardwalk where we’ll look for snakes and other herp species together. Throughout May and June, ecoEXPLORErs will be working towards their herpetology and snake field focus badges. Focusing on the study of reptiles and amphibians, we’ll learn more together about the important role these animals play in a healthy and balanced ecosystem.

ecoEXPLORE is a community science program, created by the North Carolina Arboretum, where children of all ages are able to learn how to identify wildlife around them, help real scientists track wildlife activity, and earn fun badges and prizes all at the same time!
