Native Plant Walk at Camden County Library (Camden)
June 20, 2026 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
Join NCWF Wildlife Habitat Stewards of Northeastern NC Chapter for a guided native plant walk at Camden County Public Library. This relaxed, educational-outing invites participants to explore the beauty and ecological importance of North Carolina’s native plants.
We’ll begin at the Camden County Library’s Butterfly Highway pollinator garden, a registered pitstop on NCWF’s statewide conservation initiative designed to restore habitat for pollinators. You’ll learn about the native species planted there, why they were chosen, and the birds, butterflies, and other wildlife they support.
Next, we’ll cross over to the Senior Walking Trail, a ⅓ mile boardwalk winding through a rich riparian habitat leading toward the Pasquotank River. Along the way, we’ll identify native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers while looking for signs of wildlife that rely on them for food, shelter, and nesting.
This walk will be led by Matthew Hilton, wildlife enthusiast and owner of Big Cypress Natives, who will share insights into plant identification, habitat value, and the interconnected relationships between native flora and the species they sustain.
Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or simply curious about the plants growing in your
community, this event offers a welcoming way to deepen your appreciation for the native habitats of northeastern NC. All ages are welcomed!
