Hiking for Habitat: Day 29, April 20

April 20 (19 miles)

19 miles today from Bur-Mil to Piney Bluff boating access. A cold morning, just a touch below freezing. Fog lifted off the warm water creating a spooky scene. The temperature rose quickly and the forest came back to life. Lots of breaks today. Plenty of quiet moments sitting in the sunshine eating more food and drinking too much coffee. At a small coffee shop/hut I met the mayor of Oak Ridge and her dog Luna. I walked through downtown Oak Ridge and into the Cascades Preserve. Mountains are so close! A trail angel named Steve let me sleep in his shed. He and his wife Angie filled me up with dinner, beer and life advice.
