Hiking for Habitat: Day 43, May 4
May 4, 2022
May 4 (20 miles)
20 miles from Marion to Black Mountain Campground. This morning was undoubtedly the sorest I’ve been on the trail. The Linville Gorge Wilderness almost took me down, but I sprung to life after a ton of coffee this morning and hit the trail. More climbing today, but not even close to yesterday. I made it to Black Mountain Campground just before dark and enjoyed a nice quiet dinner on a warm evening. Finished up segment 4 today. The last 75 miles were wild. Picturesque cascades and waterfalls, sun-beaten peaks and stunning views. Can’t wait to see what the last 180 miles of the MST has in store. Mt. Mitchell tomorrow!
