All About Bats! (Online)

May 2, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

We often overlook bats in North Carolina because of fear or indifference. Join the South Wake Conservationists as we dispel some myths about bats, educate about the importance of bats in our ecosystems, and highlight the difficulties facing bat populations – and what you can do to help!

Allison Medford will guide us along our journey into the fascinating world of bats. Allison is a Wildlife Diversity Biologist with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. Her position is based in the Piedmont but has statewide responsibilities for nongame birds and mammals. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University in 2013, and her master’s degree in Applied Ecology at NCSU in 2014.

Her current work includes monitoring songbird, barn owl, bald eagle, and small mammal populations in the Uwharries and throughout the Piedmont, as well as editing Species Conservation Plans for Threatened and Endangered species. She is married to her husband, Rupert, and they have three children. She enjoys serving at her local church, working in her family’s bee yard and honey operation, and gardening.
