Bradford Pear Bounty (Hendersonville)

May 4, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

The North Carolina Bradford Pear Bounty program is a collaboration between the NC Urban Forest Council, NC Wildlife Federation, the NC State Extension and NC Forest Service. Invasive species harm wildlife and ecosystems by crowding out and hindering the success of valuable native species. The program provides incentives for the removal of invasive Bradford pear trees from the North Carolina landscape by offering up to five native trees to those who cut down Bradford pears!

Pre-registration is required. Henderson County residents who register are eligible to receive up to five free trees total (one per tree removed). Before and after pictures of the Bradford pear trees you cut down must be shown to organizers at the pick-up to receive replacement trees.

Proof of residence in Henderson County will be required at pick up in the form of a driver’s license or a recent utility bill.

Note, this program is geared toward homeowners/landowners. Trees should never be removed from property without the owner’s permission. A limited number of replacement trees/shrubs in 5-7 gallon pots will be available on a first come, first served basis. Some examples of native trees that have been distributed in the past include redbud, serviceberry, black cherry and white oak.
