Changes in the Land: A Local Environmental History (Charlotte)

April 9, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join Charlotte Wildlife Stewards and local Historian Nolan Dahm as we take a journey through time. Nolan will introduce the concept of “environmental history” and its importance for addressing some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.

Discussion will emphasize the role of the Catawba people, the changes brought by colonialism and slave-based plantation agriculture, and the challenges presented by the modern “Anthropocene”.

We’ll take a deep dive into the nuances of the words “nature”, “environment”, and “wilderness” while exploring many of Nolan’s book recommendations.
