Gardening in the Southern Piedmont Series (Marvin)

March 13, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join MARSH- the local chapter of NC Wildlife Federation in the 28173 zip code, along with the NC Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Union County, and the Wild Ones Charlotte Piedmont Chapter for a four-class, in-person, educational series focused on Gardening in the Southern Piedmont. The class was wildly successful in its first year (2023) and if you are new to gardening or new to the area, this is for you!

Classes will be held on consecutive Wednesdays from February 28 through March 20.

We will cover gardening basics, turf, landscaping, and gardening for wildlife all with a focus on making the process as low maintenance and environmentally friendly as possible.

The cost for the series is $100. Space is limited to 25 participants who are age 18 or older. Pre-registration is required.

Class 1 The Basics: sun, soil, timing, water, care, composting.

Class 2 The Yard: turf or not, basic landscaping plants and plans.

Class 3 The Wildlife: why natives, planting for butterflies, bees, birds and other creatures, maintenance and advantages of adding more natives.

Class 4 Problem Solving: pest control, climate change implications, plant sourcing, navigating HOAs. and more. Plants will be available for purchase!

A hand-painted sign that reads "Native Plants" sits in front of a garden.
