Hike With HAWK: one animal’s trash is another’s treasure! (Mint Hill)

April 2, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for this HAWK meeting wich will include and easy walk at Stevens Creek Nature Preserve.

Every year, near the beginning of April, the male white-tailed deer sheds his antlers to grow a new set for the following season. These antlers are then used as a valuable resource for other animals in their ecosystem. We will learn about the relationship deer have with their environment by exploring their life cycle and taking a walk through Stevens Creek Nature Preserve to observe the signs and antler sheds the deer leave behind each year.

Our speaker, Daniel Carpenter, is the Parks Coordinator for the Town of Matthews. He has spent his life pursuing enviornmental conservation and the outdoors. Daniel spent the last ten years as an environmental educator and credits his career and life path to the Habitat And Wildlife Keepers.
