My What Big Eyes You Have! (Matthews)

May 7, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us at the Matthews Community Center to learn about some of the first insets to evolve on our planet some 300 million years go. Dragonflies and damselflies both begin their lives as aquatic insects before they crawl out of the water and become the familiar flying insect predators we know.

Our speaker will be Dr. Erika Niland. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a master’s in entomology and a PhD in plant pathology. After graduation, Erika moved to Charlotte, NC to begin teaching at Wingate University. Her research focuses on bioligical control of insect pests, the biology and plasticity of invasive insects, and eDNA pollinator studies.
