Plant This, Not That! (Marvin)

March 26, 2024 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join MARSH and Debbie Dillion, NCSU Extension Horticulture Agent in Union County, to discuss native plants that can replace invasive plants in your landscape.

An invasive plant is a non-native species that can quickly spread and dominate natural or disturbed environments, often outcompeting native plants for resources such as sunlight, water, and nutrients. These plants typically have no natural predators or controls in their new environments, allowing them to reproduce rapidly and crowd out native vegetation. This means that most invasive plants don’t support our native wildlife as a food source and crowd out plants that do!

To combat the spread of invasive plants and promote the use of native alternatives Debbie will discuss the NC Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox and alternative plants that are easy to grow. The NC Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox provides information on native plants suitable for landscaping and gardening in North Carolina. By incorporating native plants into landscaping projects and avoiding the use of invasive species, you can help protect native ecosystems, support local wildlife, and create sustainable landscapes that thrive in harmony with the natural environment.
