The Journey North Program: Engaging Volunteers in Wildlife Migration Tracking (Online)

March 25, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Did you know that 350 (or about 15%) of all bird species in North America are migratory? And, did you know that approximately 71% of insects also embark on incredible migratory journeys? Join NCWF for a captivating webinar to learn how Journey North, a crowdsourced, participatory science initiative, mobilizes thousands of volunteers across North America to track the seasonal migration of iconic species like monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, common loons, and more. But here’s the thing – it takes a crowd to unravel the mysteries of migration. While our migration tracking and habitat conservation work may be local, our collective impact is continental. It’s not just about the destination; it’s about the journey!

Our speaker is Ms. Nancy A. Sheehan, the Journey North program coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, has worked at the intersection of science and community outreach for more than three decades. She believes in the collective power of individuals working together to create change for the good and, to this day, remains passionate about volunteerism and participatory science and research.
