Give Back to Birds This Giving Tuesday
Each year, on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, people around the world come together for Giving Tuesday – a global celebration of generosity. It’s a day dedicated to giving back, a day that reminds us that the spirit of community and compassion can outshine our differences and bring us together.
This year, Giving Tuesday falls on December 2, and North Carolina Wildlife Federation invites you to take part. Whether you give your time, your resources, or simply your voice, every act of generosity contributes to a shared vision: a world where wildlife and people thrive together.
Why NCWF Participates in Giving Tuesday

At NCWF, our mission is clear – to protect, conserve, and restore North Carolina’s wildlife and habitat for all. For this Giving Tuesday, we’re focusing on a group of creatures that have inspired awe and imagination for millennia: birds.
From ancient cave paintings and ivory carvings to the modern day joy of birdwatching, birds have always captivated the human spirit. They color our skies, they fill our mornings with song, and they connect us to the rhythms of the natural world. Yet, their songs are growing quieter. In the past fifty years alone, North America’s bird populations have declined by nearly three billion – a staggering loss that underscores how urgently our shared action is needed.
Why Birds Matter
Birds do more than bring beauty to our world. They are pollinators, pest controllers, seed spreaders, and essential indicators of ecosystem health. Their presence – or their absence – tells the story of the land around us.
As Rachel Carson warned in Silent Spring, a world without birdsong would be a world diminished. Theodore Roosevelt once mourned the disappearance of bluebirds, describing their loss as “the loss of an old friend.” Today, that same sense of loss looms large as many familiar species – from warblers and sparrows to blackbirds and finches – face steep declines.

How You Can Help This Giving Tuesday
This Giving Tuesday, we ask you to stand with NCWF in protecting the birds that define our seasons and inspire our stories. Your generosity – no matter the form – makes a tangible difference.
- Donate to support NCWF’s bird conservation and habitat restoration programs.
- Volunteer in your community to help plant native trees, clean up habitats, or monitor bird populations.
- Share our mission with friends and family to inspire others to act for wildlife.
In a world with so much division, Giving Tuesday offers a simple but powerful way to reconnect – with each other, with our communities, and with the natural world.
Together, we can ensure that North Carolina’s skies stay alive with color and song – for today, and for generations to come.
Join us this Giving Tuesday. Give back to wildlife. Keep the birds singing.
