Hiking for Habitat: Day 20, April 11

April 11 (27 miles)

27 miles today from Howell Woods to East Clayton Community Park. The temperature started at 44 this morning and worked its way up to 83. Long day of sweaty hiking, but I made solid progress. Highlights included eating a subway sandwich in downtown Smithfield with a view of the Neuse River. Later in the day, I found myself without a place to camp. I reached out to MST trail angels Larry and Lisa. Even though it was last minute, they took me in without question and even fed me pizza. In the comfort and safety of their front yard, I put up my tent and enjoyed a long hot shower. It felt like home.
