Backyard Nature

September 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join the South Wake Conservationists online or in-person at the Bass Lake Conference Center in Holly Springs for a presentation from Jerry Reynolds. Light refreshments and a raffle will be available for in-person attendees.

Jerry Reynolds, Head of Outreach at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, lives in rural Johnston County near Clayton. Since moving to Johnston County in 2004, Jerry has photographed and documented the plants, fungi, and wildlife in his backyard and the adjacent forest. From ghost fireflies to least brook lampreys to the amazing Possum Hole Chronicles, he will share some of that diversity through photographs and videos. Jerry Reynolds received BS and MS degrees in Zoology from North Carolina State University. He had an early interest in reptiles and amphibians beginning as a young child growing up in rural Duplin County. His master’s research was a two-summer study, live trapping the scarlet snake at Carolina Beach State Park. Jerry considers himself a naturalist/educator who enjoys exploring and showing others all the wonderful aspects of our natural world. His museum career has spanned over 40 years including 20 years at Discovery Place Science in Charlotte and over 20 years at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
